What's the most rewarding aspect of what you do?

When someone messages me on social media and says that something that I've done has made them believe in something that they didn't even know was possible.

Now that you’re doing photography full-time, how do you stay focused?

Photography being a full-time job is a hard thing to wrap your head around; there are so many aspects to it. There's the researching that goes on before, but then a shoot could just fall out of the sky right now. Ideas come and go, so you just have to be ready for when that comes and you have to be diligent, focused and work maybe even harder when you have all of this free time. Now that I live by myself in my own studio, I treat that as an important place for my work. Honestly, I haven't had much time to think, because straight out of school I was working. The whole summer after graduation I was waiting for August to come around so I could finally take a vacation, but that never came, I just kept working.

What excites you about your position now?

In the beginning, you understand everything in a more superficial sense. The studio itself is beautiful every day you’re seeing these well-known photographers, stylists, and talent; it can almost be overwhelming. Then once you start seeing how everything works, it becomes more interesting because you can start putting all of the pieces together. You start recognizing things like how certain creative teams work together and the different personalities and styles of each photographer. You also see people move on up in the industry. Someone might have started as someone's assistant, and now you're seeing them shoot their own stuff. I think that's really exciting.

How do you keep yourself engaged and inspired?

I never get tired of research, and I’m always listening to music, which constantly inspires me. I’d also say that visually I never get lazy, I’ll spend hours looking for new ideas and ways to be stimulated. Today we have everything in our hands, so there are no excuses.

What's the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Well, I'm always very happy when I see Loewe in print. It’s something that I can show for my work. Because you work so hard for things that people outside of the industry view as trivial. Or you work so, so hard for a show that only lasts 10 minutes. And those 10 minutes are 6 months of work. So this is why I cry all the time at fashion shows. Like, ah, this is so beautiful.

It’s like everyone that I couldn’t see or canceled on, look at this.

Exactly.

Also, it makes my day when friends who don’t work in fashion say things like "Hey, I saw Loewe in this editorial. I love it. Who's the photographer? How much is that sweater? I need it." You know?

I think my biggest accomplishment here was when we were at the office and received a text, saying “Congratulations on Vogue Paris!!” and I was like, “wait, what?” So I quickly scrolled my Instagram and there it was, Loewe was on the Vogue Paris cover

! Major !!!! And I thought: “Wow. I made it, we made it.”

What’s one of your favorite aspects of your job?

My job is to create exclusive content for our social media, so I get to go wherever the models go, which is really fun because I’m not chained to my desk all day.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?

I do my job with so much pleasure. I love what I do and I don't want to do anything else. The best thing is when I work so hard on something, and at the end, someone comes up to me and says, "Okay. What you did looks amazing, congratulations." But the real thing that I work for are the models. There is nothing like being backstage at a show, waiting 5 hours with them and getting to know them. They all know that I’m there for them and that I do everything to make them feel good and safe. That's what I work for.

Do you have a favorite part of your role or one that's the most rewarding?

What I love about The Cut is that we talk about things that pertain to women in every aspect and intertwine them all. It's a site where we can talk about fashion and politics and how they merge. I love being part of the team here.

Even though I'm responsible for a lot, my ideas are always welcome for things that are outside of my role. For instance, if I want to write or contribute to the conversations that they're having about what to cover or who to feature, my ideas are taken into account. It's not like, "Oh, you're a producer, so you don't have any say in this."

I'm wondering what has been your favorite moment at work, or maybe a particular story with one student?

During the pilot project there was a moment with Caroline and I. It was the first day of class and we gave one of our students, a 16 year old Palestinian girl, fabric. She just started draping and the way that she was working, it was a moment for us where we looked at each other and said, "Okay, we're onto something." Just watching the students is what’s amazing. It's become like home to them, it's a safe space and they really treat it like that. This is their dream and this is their chance to pursue that, and so they're really making the most out of every second of their education and it’s beautiful to see. They've become like family, and these are people who come from different religions, backgrounds and they would have never met each other. This year when we had our graduation fashion show, our first 4 graduates walked out and everybody stood up and started clapping and screaming. It was a very heartwarming moment.

Why do you want to be where you are today?

I like to help people. In the end, I’m not a fashion designer. I’m someone who’s trying to help foster the growth of other designers. I want to make impacts.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Talking with all of the younger designers for sure. They’re all so unique, they all have different stories and backgrounds.

It's crazy how they achieve success with the kinds of obstacles that they face, so even just listening to them is so helpful, because we can identify where they need more support.

What's the most rewarding aspect of what you do?

I love to travel. I feel like I went on a makeup trip around the world; also meeting people, it's fantastic. On every set, there’s always a mix of so many personalities and cultures from around the world. Things keep getting more exciting, so I'm sure I’ll never be bored of it.

What is one of your favorite experiences? How did it come about?

I don’t have a particularly favorite experience, but I always feel so privileged to be able to shoot in some amazing locations such as Lithuania & Ibiza beaches as well as incredible architectural buildings. Whether it's brutalist London design or beautiful old churches in Andalucia, my husband is an architectural designer so I am a bit hard wired to appreciate these things.

What's the most rewarding aspect of what you do?

The most rewarding aspect is picking up all the clothes in the duffels every single morning and piling it into cars. Piling twenty-seven duffels into three SUVs and breaking my back everyday. No. That is not the most rewarding. The most rewarding is-

You just gave me a major flashback.

I guess seeing it in print and smelling the paper. I love the smell of freshly printed paper and just knowing that we are creating something that some ten-year- old boy is going to see or some girl is going to see in some suburb that's going to inspire them to move to New York or move to Paris and follow their dreams because that's what I did.

I saw CR and my life changed. I thought, "Wow. This is incredible. I need to be part of this" and that's exactly what I made happen. I think that's the most rewarding thing is seeing the actual book or seeing the actual campaigns that we worked on and seeing the final product and being able to say, "Wow. I was a part of this and this is going to be a part of somebody's mood board or idea or reference and help whoever, wherever, accomplish whatever."

What's the most rewarding aspect of what you do?

Traveling to different cities and meeting photographers are my two favorite things right now. It's so perfect because the most stressful part of a shoot is prepping it and the lead up to it. But once you actually get to whatever crazy set location you’re shooting at and you meet the photographer, it's like, "Yes. This is so worth it.” I love it.

What's the most rewarding aspect of what you do?

It’s when you're on a shoot, and you just feel like everything is going in a good direction and that there is a good energy. That's the moment when I'm really happy to do what I'm doing.
